Add filtered all my music subtrees for each defined smart playlist

Priority: | minor | Milestone: | 0.21 |
Component: | mythmusic | Version: | head |
Severity: | medium | Keywords: | smart playlists filter |

Description
This patch will add an entry next to All My Music and All My Playlists for each of the smart playlist categories defined. Each of these is filled with the smart playlists defined in that category. Each of these tree nodes is then filled with the all my music tree, but filtered using that smart playlist. This adds the results of the Filter (F) menu to the main playback box.
The diff is against SVN 14488.

You can already do something like this.
If you press 'F' you can filter 'All My Music' to show only the entries that match the method you chose from the menu.
For example if you select 'Smart Playlists' from the menu and choose 'All tracks from 80s' then 'All My Music' will only show entries for tracks that have the Year set somewhere in the 80's. The advantage is that it works for all the methods to create a playlist available from the filter menu.

If my memory serves me right, I was the one to add the 'F'ilter option there in the first place :-)
I know this duplicates some functionality (the patch description already states that), but I found that using the filter option was just too cumbersome for me to actually use it. I also thought this would add more use to the first "bin" on the screen, as it now only serves for all music or all playlists.
As I'm running a patched version of mythmusic already (due to another patch not applied, for which I kind of agree with the reasoning), I won't mind either way, but do think this adds more useability overall to mythmusic (for which there seem to be numerous plans, but not that much code ;-)

Forgot one: this makes MythMusic esp more useable for users with remotes with not-too-many buttons...

If you can come up with an interface that does what everyone wants that can be used with a remote I'd only be too happy to implement it :-) I've had a go myself to create a better way to browse though my music to select tracks but haven't yet come up with anything that doesn't have some sort of flaws in the design. I would particularly like an interface that at least allows albums to be selected using thumb images of the album covers.
stuartm has recently said he is working on some MythMusic interface improvements so we will just have to wait and see what he comes up with.

My point was just that various people seem to be working on all kinds of GUI enhancements, and sofar very few of them go through... I find the reasoning "you can do the same in another way" not very convincing, as this would also hold for finding programs to record, etc. etc.
I do have a masterplan for a new MythTV GUI (and even have some prototyping done in Flash), but have way not enough time to implement it soon.
Maybe I should have promoted my patch better on the mailing list to get people to actually use it, but to be honest I don't care enough for that... I'm using it, and I'm happy with it :-)
