#5553 closed defect (invalid)

Slow n' go "internal" DVD playback / cache function

Reported by: Greg Grotsky <spikeygg@…> Owned by: skamithi
Priority: minor Milestone: unknown
Component: mythdvd Version: unknown
Severity: medium Keywords:

Description

When setting the DVD player in myth to use "internal", I notice that DVD playback is not smooth. The video playback speed oscillates somewhere between 0.6x-1.4x the sound is usually unbroken and 1x. The problem is most obvious on a smooth pan during movie playback. Playing the same DVD using mplayer works fine with solid 1x playback.

As another member on myth-users had pointed out: playback in mplayer causes the DVD-ROM drive's light to be steady -- always on, while playback with the internal player causes the drive's light to constantly blink. It's as if the drive is not streaming the data continuously.

mplayer also has a -cache function which can be used to increase the amount of look ahead buffer on the DVD. The internal player may benefit from such an addition (if it doesn't already exist).

This is me resisting the urge to close as invalid. Blink speed?!

This ticket can be closed. A user from the mythtv-users forum showed me an option that can be used to change the drives read speed (it's already there). This fixes my issue.
