I have gotten around this by using mythcommflag to rebuild the seek tables for all videos in my "archives" It seems the internal player does not like it when you drop HDPVR recorded H.264s and play it via Mythvideo

Current trunk fixes the issue (I can ffwd and rwd), but... major pixelization occurs when FFWD or RWD

Please try with latest trunk. The backtrace doesn't make it look like it's really hung, it's just trying to buffer enough video, probably because you have no seektables.
We also need to know what type of files, mpeg2, h.264 or something else? Which container? In short we need much more information.
