No Program Guide in LiveTV
Reported by: | Owned by: | Janne Grunau

Severity: | medium | Keywords:

Description
This behavior started immediately after updating from 0.22.0+fixes22517 to fixes22547, and still occurs in fixes22550. Running Mythbuntu 9.04 x86_64, plus daily 0.22-trunk builds.
Program Guide during LiveTV has disappeared. I only get a completely gray screen (with live playback continuing in the upper right corner as expected). Program Guide from the Schedule Recordings menu appears fine, however.

I am also having this problem with OpenSUSE 11.2 x86_64. I recently installed the 0.22 release from the Packman repositories, upgrading a 0.21 installation. Same behavior, program guide works when selecting it from the menu but with LiveTV fails. Unlike pete-mythtv, I was unable to fix the behavior by changing the "Show ... when starting live TV" setting.

Can you please attach the full output (i.e. from startup) of:-
mythfrontend -v playback
and confirm what gpu and driver version you are using.
thks, Mark

The output I provided is for a run where I selected "watch TV", activated the guide, and then to the menu and exited mythfrontend. I am using a GeForce? 9600 GT, I don't remember the brand off the top of my head but if you need it I can find it. I am using the NVIDIA binary drivers, version 190.42.
Thanks!

Thanks for the logs. This is a known issue with release-0-22-fixes that was resolved with trunk in r22530. The interaction between the OpenGL theme painter and OpenGL video renderer when displaying the guide grid or program finder can be erratic. The fix in trunk was to use the existing UI window to render the OpenGL video but I'm not convinced it has had enough testing to risk backporting.
In the meantime, I suggest you either switch to another video output method, change to the Qt painter (which may exhibit the same problems) or upgrade to trunk.
rgds, Mark
Update: Possibly resolved by switching off the "Show the program guide when starting Live TV" option, watching a few channels, then switching the option back on. Seems ok now. Possibly something in the upgrade process had set this parameter to a bad value in the database?
