This is probably a duplicate of #8509, but I obviously stepped on someone's toes when I tried to add information to help solve the problem.
I have upgraded to 24903 and, as with the other poster, the problem still exists. I will also provide a log listing with -v audio.
What may be of additional interest is that when I disable upmixing to 5.1 I get no audio whatsoever.
My audio configuration is a Sound Blaster Live 24 USB audio device. In Setup/General/Audio? the device is set to "ALSA:iec958:CARD=External,DEV=0". Previously I had been using "ALSA:plughw:1,0". Typing this in provides the same results as using iec958 from the picklist.
The log file has several start and stops for playing the mp3. Towards the end, I switched to no upmix and then back.

My experience with 0.23 is that in MythMusic, if I enable upmixing within the MythMusic configuration, playing mp3's results in skip of approximately 2-3 seconds of every 10 seconds of the song being played. My output is ALSA and I am using the IEC958 output of Intel HDA audio on an I915GM/ICH6 motherboard (2.6.30.5 kernel).

I realize that this is difficult to diagnose without the specific hardware/software combination. If it helps, I am using an external SB Live USB sound card. The sound on the motherboard was cooked during a lightning strike. So I don't know if this is a problem with the SB Live or not.
I would be happy to try to troubleshoot this, but I need some direction on how to proceed. I am a C programmer by profession (a bit less experienced with C++) but could apply some diagnostic output if I knew what and where.
